Gov Otu promises global relevance for Carnival Calabar in 2025

CARNIVALCALABAR: In a move to take Africa's biggest street party to the world stage, Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River has pledged to make the Calabar Carnival a global phenomenon in 2025.
Otu disclosed during the official opening of the biggest street party (Carnival Calabar) in Calabar, which featured seven competitive bands and seven non-competitive bands performing along the 12-kilometer carnival route.
He said the 2024 Calabar Carnival, themed "Our Shared Prosperity has been a massive success, with a 32-day celebration packed with exciting activities, including a boat regatta, choir competition, and beauty contest.
Governor Otu expressed his gratitude to the dignitaries, tourists, and sponsors present, emphasizing the importance of exploring Calabar's tourism assets.
“The Calabar Carnival has become a significant contributor to Nigeria's cultural and economic landscape.
Governor Otu's vision to take the carnival global is expected to further boost Nigeria's reputation on the international stage, attracting more tourists and investors to the country.”
In his remarks, Dr. Gabe Onah, Chairman of the Calabar Carnival Commission, appreciated the sponsors, including Afrixim Bank, Arias IIP, and MTN, while emphasising the need for sustainability and community engagement in the tourism and hospitality sectors ¹.
As the Calabar Carnival continues to grow in popularity, Governor Otu's commitment to taking it global is a testament to the event's potential to unite people and promote cultural exchange.
Subsequently, In his remarks at the carnival, Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi praised Governor Otu for uniting the people of Cross River through the carnival.
“This is a historic event. Here, I see love, understanding, compassion, and liberty. Your Excellency, Governor Otu, your leadership style has been effective, and I commend you for unlocking the potential in the youth. You are truly taking the lead.”
Also, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara expressed his satisfaction, saying, “I am glad to be back here. I am witnessing sustainability and progress.
“This puts Nigeria on the global map and enhances the state's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). This is a beautiful day, so let us celebrate!”
