TECH: The Head of Programs and Director of Product Marketing at the African
Institute of Technology and Innovation (AITI), Mr. Olawale Yusuf, has called on government take advantage of this huge global tech market to train young people to drive the economy.
Yusuf
said this on Thursday during a live radio appearance on Creative Nigeria, a
weekly Tourism and Cultural magazine program on Mainland 98.3 FM, Lagos
anchored by veteran award-winning cultural tourism journalist, Frank Meke and
Bunmi Bade Adeniji every Thursday, he noted that what Nigerians need now is a mind
shift change to Technology.
“We
are already in a tech-enabled world and it is going to get even much more
tech-enabled, and for you to be a functioning member of the society and deliver
value in today’s global world, you need to learn a tech skill to be able to perform
certain functions in tech.
“Before
what we had was a chequebook, but now we have credit cards. Before the computer
was introduced, people used to use typewriters.
However,
based on actual data, a huge chunk of jobs that exist are all tech-related.
Tech
is already a big deal in the today, as Africans, we certainly need to catch up
with the Western world, and to achieve this the government needs to make
deliberate efforts to empower young Nigerians with In demand tech skills to
take them off the street, said the tech expert.
The
Tech Expert also emphasised on the importance of investing in tech education to
drive sustainable economic growth and hence tech in-demand skills among young
people, as tech is the new gold main that can be used to create employment for
the Youths.
The
African Institute of Technology and Innovation (AITI) offers training and
development for young people who are ambitious and visionary about tech,
providing tech skills that meet the ever
revolving innovative world of tech.
"Now,
Tech is a huge field and we have created an institute where the most important
set of skills that you can learn to thrive in the world of technology are things
that you can learn with us.
Speaking
on the notion that tech is difficult to learn, Mr. Yusuf said, "We also
understand that there is the notion that tech is difficult. There is a notion
that tech is a bit hard to learn. And I always say that tech really is not
hard. You just aren't doing it in the right environment, for you know.
"Just
like when you take a fish and put it on a dry land to climb a mountain, it
becomes a difficult task because of the environment, but when you put that same
fish in a bottle filled with water, it becomes easy for it to swim to the
top."
"For
us in AITI, we do not just teach teach skills. We take you from the foundation,
equipping you with the right foundational knowledge to succeed in tech."
"We
want everybody interested in tech to be able to learn tech skills at an affordable
price successfully.
Just
like we have new technology like the block chain, front-end, back-end, product
manager, product design UI/UX, artificial intelligence, and cyber security. All
we need from you is for you to give us your time and commitment, he said.
